How Med Spas Get Found by AI (AI Visibility for Aesthetic Practices)

By Adev Aarons, Founder of Specularis · Updated August 2026

When someone wants Botox, filler, or laser, they increasingly ask ChatGPT or Perplexity “who’s the best med spa near me” before they open Google. The AI names a few practices, and that’s the shortlist the client chooses from. We tested 43 Florida med spa sites the way ChatGPT reads them. Med spas did better than most local businesses, they’re marketing-forward by nature, but 37% were still invisible to AI, and 28% block the crawler. If that’s your site, you’re not in the answer, and a high-value client picks someone else.

Here’s how to get named.

Why med spas get left out of AI answers

Med spas tend to have polished sites, so owners assume they’re fine. Two hidden problems say otherwise.

The crawler block. Many med spa sites sit behind a security layer or a “checking your browser” challenge. A real visitor’s browser passes it and sees your beautiful site. ChatGPT’s crawler doesn’t, so to AI your practice is a locked door. More than a quarter of the med spas we tested were doing this.

No machine-readable identity. A stunning design means nothing to a crawler if there’s no structured data saying “this is a medical aesthetic practice in Miami offering these treatments.” AI won’t infer it from your photos. See the full breakdown in our study of 561 Florida businesses.

How AI decides which med spa to cite

AI names practices it can clearly identify, that independent sources back up, and whose content answers the client’s question. For aesthetics, three signals matter most:

  1. Reviews and credibility. Aesthetic treatments are high-trust. Google reviews, RealSelf ratings, and real before-and-afters are among the strongest signals AI uses for “who should I trust with my face.”
  2. Platform presence. RealSelf, Healthgrades, Yelp, and a complete booking profile are the corroboration AI trusts for a medical-adjacent business.
  3. Clear treatments and location. Schema and content that state your treatments, your providers, and the area you serve, so AI knows exactly what you offer and where.

Step 1: Open the door to the AI crawlers

Check that your firewall, security plugin, and robots.txt let GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot through. Blocking them buys you nothing on security and just removes you from the answer. Test it by requesting your homepage as a GPTBot user-agent and watching for a 403 or a challenge page.

Step 2: Add the right medical-business schema

AI identifies you through structured data. Add MedicalBusiness or HealthAndBeautyBusiness schema with your practice name, providers, treatments offered, address, area served, phone, and an aggregateRating from your reviews. Without it, AI can load your page but can’t tell it’s a medical aesthetic practice serving a specific market.

Step 3: Get Google Business Profile and reviews right

Claim your Google Business Profile, complete it fully, and build a steady stream of real reviews. For a high-trust aesthetic decision, reviews carry enormous weight with AI. Ask satisfied clients at the end of a great visit, and make leaving one effortless.

Step 4: Build out RealSelf and your booking platforms

Complete your profiles on RealSelf, Healthgrades, Yelp, and your booking platform (Vagaro, Boulevard, or similar). Keep your name, address, phone, and treatment list identical across all of them and your site. These are the trusted sources AI cross-references for aesthetic practices.

Step 5: Write treatment pages that answer client questions

Clients ask AI real questions before they book. “How much does Botox cost in Miami.” “How long does filler last.” “Is laser hair removal safe.” Publish clear, answer-first pages for each treatment you offer. When your site is the one that answers, AI starts citing your practice as the source, and your name comes with it.

Frequently asked

Why isn't ChatGPT recommending my med spa?

Either your site blocks the AI crawler (28% of the Florida med spa sites we tested do) or it has no structured data telling AI what your practice is and where. Both are quick fixes. A free audit shows which one applies to you.

Which platforms matter most for med spas and AI?

Google Business Profile first, then RealSelf, Yelp, and Healthgrades, plus a complete booking profile on Vagaro or similar. Real reviews across these are what AI trusts most for an aesthetic decision.

Do reviews help a med spa show up in AI answers?

Yes, heavily. Aesthetic treatments are high-trust purchases, so AI leans on reviews and before-and-after credibility. A steady flow of real Google and RealSelf reviews is one of your strongest signals.

How long until my med spa shows up in AI answers?

Unblocking the crawler and adding schema work quickly, usually about a week. Reviews and off-site presence compound over a couple of months as new sources get crawled. *Adev Aarons is the founder of Specularis, an AI visibility company that gets local businesses cited by ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity.
